- Claiming to improve relations with India, Sharif appointed CDA Waraich to the Delhi embassy
Islamabad: Almost a month after central elections in Pakistan, the political confusion in the neighboring country has ended as the name of the prime minister has finally been decided. PML-N leader Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as Prime Minister for the second time in a row on Sunday. However, Shahbaz Sharif, maintaining the tradition of making anti-India statements as soon as he was elected to the post of PM, has once again played the Kashmir raga. Shahbaz Sharif compared Kashmir with Palestine in his first speech as Prime Minister. He has hinted at deepening relations with the neighboring country amid claims to improve relations with India.
Shahbaz Sharif was elected as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan after voting in the National Assembly. The Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Ayaz Sadiq presented the record of votes. Announcing the results, Ayaz Sadiq said that 72-year-old Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as the Prime Minister for the second consecutive time by getting 21 votes in the 336-member house. Imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan who challenged Shahbaz got 92 votes. Shahbaz has been the chief minister of Punjab three times. Sharif previously became the Prime Minister for the first time in 2022. However, his tenure as PM lasted only 16 months.
After the National Assembly elections, Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan will not be a partner of any party and his government will make as many friends as possible, including neighbours. We will maintain relations with neighbors on the basis of quality. However, Shahbaz Sharif, continuing the tradition of raising the Kashmir issue while being appointed to top posts in Pakistan, said that the Kashmir issue is similar to Palestine in the Middle East. We must come together for the liberation of Kashmir and Palestine. We should pass a resolution in the National Assembly for the liberation of Kashmir and Palestine. He thanked the coalition government parties for making him leader of the house and reposing faith in him.
Shahbaz said that the country's economy is going through a very difficult situation. We are facing many challenges. The country's budget deficit has exceeded one trillion rupees. How will we pay the salaries of armed forces and government employees in such a situation. He added that the new government is determined to resolve the current crisis. Shahbaz gave the slogan 'Nawaz Ka Vision, Shahbaz Ka Mission' assuring to bring Pakistan back on the old path of development.
Meanwhile, after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, India-Pakistan relations went from bad to worse. Both countries do not have ambassadors in their capitals. However, along with raising the Kashmir issue, Pakistan has taken two major steps to improve relations with India along with electing the Prime Minister. Pakistan is gradually trying to mend relations with India, as part of which Pakistan withdrew its embassy from Delhi on 5 August 2019. However, Shahbaz has now sent Saad Ahmad Waraich as the new charge d'affaires at his embassy in New Delhi for a three-year tenure.
