In Bangladesh, there has been heavy violence during a rally in Dhaka by opposition parties demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The rally was organized with allegations that PM Hussain is an autocratic leader, human rights are being violated in his government, his critics are being jailed. One of the reasons for the protest was the rising inflation in Bangladesh. More than 10000 people participated in this rally. Due to the violence during this time, the police had to lathi-charge and tear gas cells were also released. 1000 people have been detained after the violence.
The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party has demanded Sheikh Hasina's resignation and re-election by an interim government. However, this demand has been rejected by the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the supporters of the opposition party jammed many roads in the rally. They set ablaze and vandalized public places along with setting buses on fire as well.
According to the police, BNP supporters also attacked with petrol bombs. 20 police officers were also injured.
The situation has worsened after the national elections held in Bangladesh in 2014 and 2018. The opposition claims that Sheikh Hasina's party has made a big mess in the elections. However, he has been in power since 2009 and has imposed strict controls on the country's system. Former Bangladesh PM Khalia Zia has been in jail since 2018 and the BNP claims she was jailed on false charges of corruption.
