Chinese President Xi Jinping will participate in the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) meeting to be held under the chairmanship of India next week. Xi Jinping will join the meeting virtually.
China has officially announced it. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said in a statement that President Xi Jinping will participate in the 23rd SCO Council Chairmen's Meeting through video conferencing at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Currently, there is tension in the relations between India and China due to the border dispute between the two countries. This is the reason why there were doubts about the presence of the Chinese President in the SCO meeting. However, now the Chinese government has issued an official statement confirming Xi Jinping's participation in the meeting. The meeting is scheduled to be held on July 4 in India.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an organization established to promote economic and security cooperation, and is one of the largest international organizations in the world. SCO was started in the year 2001 in Shanghai, China. Its founding member states are Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In the year 2017, India and Pakistan were also made its permanent members. India holds the presidency of SCO this year. For the first time this meeting is being held under the chairmanship of India.
Till now the SCO Secretariat located in Shanghai had halls of six of its founding countries, but now the India Hall has also started in this Secretariat, which showcases India's unique culture. External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar inaugurated it.
