Saudi Arab bans Iftar in mosque When the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims is just a few days away, Saudi Arabia has made a big decision regarding the Iftar held during Roza in Mecca and Medina, the holiest cities of Islam. Now iftar has been banned in mosques in this Islamic country.

Saudi explained the reason behind this decision...

This year the month of Ramadan may start from March 10 and it will end on April 9. In this month, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. After fasting for a whole day, they break their fast after sunset which is called iftar. Meanwhile, many people organize Iftar in mosques. The reason behind this ban is cleanliness in mosques.

Prohibition of planning inside the mosque

In a notice issued by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs on 20 February 2024, it was stated that the government of Saudi Arabia emphasizes that iftar should not be organized in the mosque in view of cleanliness. Guidelines have also been issued for this. The tweet said that Imams and Moezzins of mosques should arrange for Iftar at a suitable place outside the mosque. However, it is also said that no temporary rooms or tents of any kind should be arranged for Iftar.

The notice assigns the responsibility to the Imam and the Moezzin

A notice from the Saudi Arabian ministry said that the responsibility of organizing the Iftar rests with the Imam Sahib and the Moezzin. It is also their responsibility not to break the rule of not holding Iftar in any mosque, if the food is spilled then clean the mosque immediately afterwards. Also, now the mosque officials cannot take donations for Iftar. It has also been asked to stop the use of cameras or mobile phones in the mosque premises. Sharing of Namaz through social media is also prohibited.
