America freezes due to snow storm, more than 1200 flights canceled, schools and colleges also closed

A snow storm has wreaked havoc on the north-eastern coast of America. Schools and colleges have been closed in New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Around 1200 flights have been cancelled. Most of the flights were to depart from New York and Boston. Apart from this, 1700 flights departed late. A 20-year-old man has died in Pennsylvania due to the storm, police said.

Snow fell in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts in the morning

Heavy snow also fell in the morning from eastern Pennsylvania to Massachusetts. It affected 50 million (5 crore) people. 15.5 inches or 39 cm of snowfall was recorded on Tuesday. The blizzard knocked out power to 150,000 homes in Pennsylvania.

Impact on traffic

Traffic was also affected by the snow storm. Car crashes occurred in Boston and New York. Commercial vehicles were banned on the roads in some areas. People have been advised not to travel unless necessary.
