The maiden voyage of the world's largest 365 meter long ship begins

Helsinki, January 29, 2024, Monday

Icon of the Sea, the world's largest ship, has started its journey. Icon of the Sea was the eagerly awaited maiden voyage of a Rolls Caribbean group ship from Miami, Florida. The ship is 365 meters (1200 feet) in length. This 20-storey ship is large enough to accommodate 7600 passengers simultaneously.

The ship has seven swimming pools and a slide. The ship will cruise the Caribbean islands for seven days. Icon of the Sea includes 40 restaurants, bars and lounges. 2 billion dollars have been spent to build the ship. Saves up to 24 percent energy compared to other ships. The vessel weighs 250800 metric tons and is powered by LNG.

LNG is considered cleaner than conventional energy, but the methane emitted from LNG is even more dangerous than carbon dioxide. However, environmentalists are upset with the ship's construction, despite its energy savings. Environmentalists believe that not only will the ship emit methane, it will also be very harmful to the marine environment. While the ship was being built in Finland, there was excitement among cruise fans but environmental activists protested.
