Worries in Nepal increased, 100 Nepalese nationals fighting Ukraine on Russia's behalf were missing

The war between Russia and Ukraine has increased Nepal's anxiety. The government of Nepal has admitted that around 100 Nepalese nationals who left Nepal to fight on behalf of Russia are currently missing and their whereabouts are untraceable.

Nepal's Foreign Minister Narayan Prasad Saud said on Tuesday that about 100 Nepali soldiers fighting on behalf of the Russian army are missing and injured in the war against Ukraine. It is estimated that there are currently around 200 Nepali soldiers in the Russian army. This figure may be higher. We don't have the exact figure that there are some Nepalis in the Russian army.

He further said that around 200 Nepalis who had gone to Russia for work, study or travel had joined the army. This number may be higher. Because we have received complaints that around 100 Nepali citizens have been injured and their addresses are not being found.

The Government of Nepal has expressed its concern to the Russian Government on this issue. According to the Russian government, some Nepali citizens were involved in our army and seven of them have been killed. While about 100 are missing.

The Foreign Minister of Nepal further said that some Nepalese are feared to be in the custody of the Ukrainian army and efforts are being made to free them. The government is also in touch with the Embassy of Ukraine in India. We have also requested the Red Cross to release the people of Nepal.
