Gaza, dated 28 December 2023

Gaza's citizens have been devastated by the war between Israel and Hamas.

Faced with the Israeli onslaught, people in Gaza are now on the brink of starvation. The World Health Organization has warned that if the war does not stop soon, there will be chaos everywhere. The situation in Gaza is so bad that only 15 of its 36 hospitals are functioning and that too with inadequate facilities.

The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus, has appealed to the world that a ceasefire is necessary before a serious humanitarian crisis occurs in Gaza. People are looting our relief trucks in Gaza. Supply services are being disrupted as hungry people loot truckloads of medicines, medical supplies as well as food and oil en route.

He said that if the looting continues in the same way, it will be difficult to carry out relief work in Gaza. A ceasefire is essential if the situation in Gaza is to improve.

It is worth mentioning that people are taking refuge in hospitals to avoid the Israeli attack. 50,000 people are said to have taken shelter in Gaza's largest Al Shifa hospital alone. On the other hand, shortage of medical supplies and more than half of the hospitals being closed have increased the risk of serious epidemics.
