Sikh campaign against deportation of elderly Sikh woman from Britain to India

The entire Sikh community has united against the forced deportation of an elderly Sikh woman living in Britain for 14 years.

According to a media report, 78-year-old Gurmeet Kaur came here from Punjab in 2009 to participate in a wedding. He has been living in the town of Smethwick ever since. He has no family in Punjab.

Although more than 65,000 people applied to allow the woman to stay in Britain, her application was rejected.

A campaign titled ' We are all Gurmeet Kauair ' has been launched on social media. The petition stated that since Gurmeet Kaur had no family to live in Britain or anywhere else in Punjab, she was adopted by the local Sikh community in Smethwick.

The petition further stated that Gurmeet Kaiur is a very compassionate woman and spends most of her time in the gurdwara. Kaur had appealed against the home ministry's decision last month but the court rejected it.
