Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari said Israel released 30 Palestinians on the fifth day of the ceasefire, in return for Hamas releasing 12 hostages. These hostages will meet their families after 52 days. The 12 hostages included 10 Israeli citizens and two Thai citizens. According to Ansari, the 10 Israeli citizens include nine women and one minor. While three Israeli citizens hold dual citizenship - one from the Philippines and two from Argentina.

A day earlier, Qatar, acting as mediator between Israel and Hamas, said the two had agreed to extend the ceasefire. The release of hostages is possible during this period. Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al Ansari said an agreement had been reached to extend the humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza for two more days. According to Israeli media reports, Qatar's announcement means that at least ten more Israeli hostages will be released. Ten other hostages will be released on Wednesday. Israel will also release 30 Palestinian prisoners per day.
