Prior to the foreign minister's visit, the British Parliament recognized Taiwan as an independent country

- What will China do now?

- In a report published by the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the House of Commons of Britain, Taiwan is declared an independent country.

London: A report published on Wednesday by Britain's House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee has described Taiwan as an independent country. So the relationship between Britain and China can deteriorate.

Ahead of British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley's visit to China this week, tensions may arise between the two countries.

In fact, the British Parliament has officially declared Taiwan as an independent country in its official document. It is worth mentioning that China does not accept Taiwan as an independent country. He keeps saying that Taiwan is a province of China. Only 13 countries in the world recognize Taiwan as an independent country instead of Beijing. Then, in a report published on Wednesday by Britain's House of Commons Committee for Foreign Affairs, Taiwan has been declared as an independent country. This decision is likely to worsen the relationship between China and Britain.

According to Alicia Kearns, Chairman of the Committee of the Conservative Party of Britain, this is the first time that the British Parliament has made such a declaration in its report. "We accept China's position, but as a foreign affairs committee, we cannot accept it," Kearns told Politico. It is imperative that the Foreign Secretary stand firmly and clearly with Taiwan, and make it clear that we will affirm Taiwan's rights.

Kearns went on to say that this commitment is not only in line with British values, but is a message to autocratic regimes around the world that (one's) sovereignty cannot be usurped by violence or coercion.

The committee's report criticized the government for not showing sufficient initiative in supporting Taiwan. Also, it has been called to start preparations for sanctions with allies to stop Beijing's military action and economic blockade on the island, which supplies 90 percent of the world's semiconductors. It has also been said that if we had been more careful about offending the Communist Party of China, we would have built a close relationship with Taiwan.
