After taking a loan from the IMF, it is now the turn of the Pakistan government to comply with its stringent conditions. Because of this, the government has caused a huge uproar in the prices of electricity, petrol and diesel in Pakistan. Electricity rates in Pakistan have increased to such an extent that now people are taking to the roads.

The price of electricity in Pakistan has reached 64 rupees per unit and this price hike has broken the back of people. Demonstrations against it are now taking place all over the country. In many places the protests have taken a violent turn. Incidents of electricity theft have also started increasing due to expensive electricity.

Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Qakar has called an emergency meeting to discuss reducing power rates within 48 hours due to the growing protests. However, it is not yet clear whether this will reduce the electricity rates with immediate effect.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan said that we do not want to take any step in haste, due to which the country will suffer. We are taking such decisions which will not burden the exchequer of the country. It is not possible for dignitaries or the Prime Minister to take free electricity when people are suffering.

According to a Pakistani newspaper, earlier people's electricity bills used to be around 2500 rupees and now the bill is increasing to 10000 rupees. Due to which people who are already struggling against inflation have doubled. There are reports of a person committing suicide due to high electricity bills.

The government has now imposed a tax of 48 percent on the total electricity bill.
