A color-changing fish that puts even the kachinda to shame, lives not only in water but also on sea rocks

Rio de Janeiro, August 28, 2023, Monday

Kachinda is remembered when it comes to color change. Changing color is also a popular idiom but it will surprise you to know that a unique fish has gone beyond kachinda in changing color. The strangest thing is that this fish continues to change its color even after death. During their study, scientists have named the fish that competes with Kachinda as hog fish. The fish is also known as Lechnolimus maximus. This fish is commonly found along the Atlantic Ocean coast from the Carolinas to Brazil.

The biggest feature of this fish is that it lives on the sea rocks. Researchers believe that this fish changes color as part of a signal to protect against its enemies. The most disturbing thing for the scientists was that the dead body also changes color after death. Scientists believe that this process involves light receptors called SWS One, located below the chromatophores that give skin color. Its receptors give feed back to the fish and inform it that its skin is changing in different colors. A new study on this has been published in the Journal of Communication. Microscopy was used to examine the effect of light on different parts of the fish.
