In the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, India has sided with Armenia and provided it with its deadly Pinak multi-barrel rocket launcher system.

Due to this, Azerbaijan has started preparations to buy F-17 fighter jets from its friend Pakistan. A team of officials from Azerbaijan recently visited Pakistan and inspected these planes.

India has taken the side of Armenia because Azerbaijan has been supporting Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. Besides, Pakistan and Turkey are special friends for Azerbaijan. Now India has given a message to these two countries by standing by Armenia.

Azerbaijan Air Force needs to buy new planes for its air force as 50 percent of the planes it has are not airworthy. Thus, Azerbaijan has been discussing to buy aircraft from Pakistan since 2011. Russia is also believed to be responsible for the delay in procurement. Since JF-17 aircraft have Russian-made engines, Pakistan needs to get clearance from Russia before selling this aircraft. Azerbaijan also wants to buy Su-35 aircraft from Russia. However, Azerbaijan is reluctant to buy these planes as their cost is much higher than JF-17.
