The police killed a 17-year-old youth, the whole of France was shocked, know about the entire sequence of events
Paris, June 30, 2023, Friday
The world has taken serious notice of the violent riots that have started in France for the last two days. Demonstrators did not hesitate to set fire to public property as public outrage erupted. President Emmanuel Macron also expressed concern over the serious nature of the violence. In the tweet, it was written that it is not justified to unleash anger on assets of the republic like police stations, schools and town halls. A convoy of 40,000 police had to be deployed to quell the riots.
A 17-year-old youth who lost his temper in police firing on June 27 still refuses to calm down. The incident took place at a stop when the police stopped a North African youth driving a car. After some hesitation, the policeman shot the young man when he was preparing to move forward. The dead youth has been identified as Nahel. The police defended that the youth had to fire in self-defence as he was trying to board the security car.
However, as the video of this incident went viral, the argument of the police did not seem correct. Millions of people took to the streets in France. In some cities there are still incidents of looting along with fire. On Thursday night, there were fires and massive explosions in Marseille, Lyon, Pau, Toulouse and Lille. There was a clash between protesting youths and the police at Marseille's Vieques Port. Police lobbed tear gas grenades to disperse the crowd.
According to local media, at least 13 buses from the RATP depot in Aubervilliers were torched. Paris and its suburbs also witnessed incidents of violence. The French government arrested as many as 421 rioters while appealing to the demonstrators for peace. Internal Affairs Minister Gerald Durmanin said that the policeman who fired at the 17-year-old youth has been arrested and sent to prison.
