Sri Lanka's blow to China: The President of Sri Lanka said that military agreements will never be made with China
- Renil Vikram Singh told India that Sri Lanka is in favor and told China: Their land cannot be used against India.
Colombo: Sri Lanka has seen many ups and downs in the past year. Its economy went into the abyss. The President was deposed. The public cried revolt, but slowly Sri Lanka is now on its way. Taking advantage of Sri Lanka's economic weakness, China wanted to lure it and ask for military agreements. Then its President Renil Vikram Singh said clearly that China and Sri Lanka have strong relations, but never let you set up a military base, China has no military base in our country, it will not happen, no country can use Sri Lanka against India. He also said that Sri Lanka's economy will soon get back on track.
Before visiting Britain and France, he said in an interview that India is his favorite. China does not have any military base in Sri Lanka, nor will it set up, no country can use Sri Lankan land against India.
In response to a question in an interview given to the French media, he said that Sri Lanka is a neutral country. We have not entered into military agreements of any kind with anyone. When they were asked about India, they said: India is Sri Lanka's benefactor. What we have told India many times, I repeat once again that our country will not allow any threat to arise against India and no country can use Sri Lanka as a base.
Regarding a question related to China, Sri Lankan President Renil Vikram Singh said: China has been in our country for 1500 years. But it has no military base here. It may or may not happen, the truth is. Heban-Tota port has been given a 99-year lease to China, but remember that its security rests with our army. It may be used for commercial purposes only.
The concrete reality is that the southern port of Hamban-Tota in Sri Lanka had to be handed over to China on a 99-year lease in 2017 as it could not repay the loan taken from China. The port is on the sea trade route of Europe to Southeast and East Asia. It is of great importance to China's Belt and Road Initiative project.
At the end of this visit, the President of Sri Lanka said that we have gone through a difficult period, but now the situation has improved. Many countries including India have helped us. I hope Sri Lanka's economy will get back on track quickly.
Analysts say that China's attempts to intimidate Taiwan by flying military details over Taiwan and mentioning its territorial waters by warships have not gone unnoticed by Wickramasinghe, along with India's unconditional support to Sri Lanka, the people of Sri Lanka including the President but knows. So the Sri Lankan government and people are naturally leaning towards India. No matter how much China does, there is no possibility of making any difference in India-Sri Lanka friendship.
