Currently flights are getting delayed in America due to 5G network. This problem will remain until the US Secretary of Transportation installs updated radio altimeters on planes. Older Altimeters cannot recognize the 5G-C band. He said that this problem is likely to increase from July 1.
He said, the risk of flight delay and cancellation has increased. This can be a big problem in these heats. Aviation security officials say 5G signals can fool devices. This leads to difficulty in determining the distance between the aircraft and the Earth. This reading is used for landing during bad weather. However, wireless companies have denied this claim.
Early 2020 also faced this kind of trouble and many flights had to be cancelled. Even then, wireless companies were launching new signals. US government agencies have expressed concern over the use of bands used for satellite TV in 5G technology. Verizon and AT&T have bought the rights together. The FAA said the 5G C-band spectrum could affect aircraft altimeters. This may cause difficulty in landing.
This type of discussion took place in 2015 as well. After which this type of signal was banned near 50 airports. However, the altimeter will need to be updated from July 1 onwards. American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines have updated the altimeter so they are not facing the problem. However, Delta and JetBlue have admitted that many of their planes are not yet equipped with the updated altimeters.
